§Your information

Privacy policy

What we collect, why we collect it, who else touches it, and how to get it changed or deleted. Plain English, no fine print games.

The short version

§01Who we are

Who we are

The Real One is a digital relationship-education brand for men aged 18 and over. We’re based in Perth, Western Australia, and we sell educational PDFs and access to an online community. The Real One is operated by Montgomery Warr, a sole trader (ABN 53 174 608 177), Perth, Western Australia. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” means The Real One and its operator, and “you” means anyone who visits therealone.com.au, joins our email list or buys from us.

We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. If anything here is unclear, email team@therealone.com.au and a real person will reply.

§02What we collect

What we collect

Things you give us

  • When you get the free Date Bank: your email address, your confirmation that you’re 18 or over, whether you’ve asked for marketing emails (yes or no), and the campaign tags in the link you arrived from, if there were any (for example, which post sent you).
  • When you buy: your name, email address, billing country and order details (what you bought, the price, the date). Whop collects your payment details to process the payment. We get a record of the order, not your card number.
  • In the community: your username, profile details and anything you post or message there.
  • When you contact us: whatever you choose to put in your email, such as a refund request or a question.

Things collected automatically

  • Basic technical data: our host keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested) to keep the site running and secure.
  • Analytics: if switched on, the tools in §07 record how people use the site, such as which pages are visited and which buttons are clicked.
  • Email activity: our email provider can tell us whether an email was opened or a link was clicked.

What we don’t want

We don’t ask for sensitive information such as health details, sexual orientation or religious beliefs. Please don’t send it to us. If you share it in the community or by email anyway, we’ll only use it to reply to you or run the community, and we won’t pass it on unless the law requires it.

You can browse the site without telling us who you are. You can also use a nickname in the community. We do need a real email address to send you the Date Bank or a purchase, and Whop needs accurate details to process a payment.

§03Why we use it

Why we use it

We use your information to:

  • send you the free Date Bank, and deliver what you’ve bought when it’s ready;
  • tell you about your preorder, including delivery updates and refunds;
  • run the community and keep it safe, including enforcing the community rules in our Terms of Sale;
  • reply to your questions and handle refunds;
  • send you marketing emails, only if you’ve ticked the box asking for them (see §04);
  • understand how the site is used so we can make it better;
  • check that people buying from us are 18 or over; and
  • meet our legal obligations, such as tax records and responding to lawful requests.

We won’t use your information for anything unrelated to these purposes unless you agree or the law allows it. We don’t sell it, rent it or trade it.

§04Emails from us

Emails from us

Our Date Bank signup form is run by Formspree, which collects what you enter and passes it to us. Getting the Date Bank doesn’t put you on a marketing list. We only send you marketing emails (occasional relationship ideas and news about our products) if you tick the separate, optional box that asks for them. We keep a record of that choice, the wording you agreed to and when.

Every marketing email says who it’s from and has an unsubscribe link. Click it and we’ll take you off the list, usually straight away and always within five business days. You can also just email us and ask.

If you’ve bought something, we’ll still send emails about that order (delivery, refunds, important changes) even if you’ve unsubscribed from marketing. Those aren’t marketing.

§05Who we share it with

Who we share it with

We use a few service providers to run the business. They only get what they need to do their job.

ProviderWhat they doWhat they handle
WhopCheckout, payments and the communityName, email, payment details, order history, community profile and posts
FormspreeRuns the Date Bank signup formEmail address, 18+ confirmation, your marketing-email choice, campaign tags, and technical details used to block spam
VercelHosts the websiteServer logs, including IP address and browser details
Plausible, Google Analytics 4, Meta PixelSite analytics and ad measurement, if switched on (see §07)Pages visited, clicks, device and browser details

Whop, Formspree and the analytics providers also handle information under their own privacy policies, which you can read on their websites. Whop processes payments, so its own terms and privacy policy apply to the payment itself.

We may also share information with our accountant or legal advisers, or with authorities when the law requires it. If The Real One is ever sold or merged, your information may pass to the new owner, who would have to keep looking after it the same way.

§06Information sent overseas

Information sent overseas

Most of our providers store information outside Australia. Based on what they publish, that’s mainly the United States, and for Plausible, the European Union. Their servers may also be in other countries.

We choose established providers that have their own security and privacy commitments, and we only share what they need. Laws overseas may not protect your information in the same way Australian law does. By using the site, joining the list or buying from us, you understand that your information will be handled this way.

§07Cookies and analytics

Cookies and analytics

Cookies are small files a website puts on your device. Right now, our analytics are switched off. We may switch on one or more of these tools later, and if we do, this is what they do:

  • Plausible counts visits and clicks without cookies and without building a profile of you.
  • Google Analytics 4 uses cookies to measure how people find and use the site. Google may combine this with other data it holds under its own policies.
  • Meta Pixel uses cookies to measure whether our ads on Facebook and Instagram work, and may be used to show our ads to people who visited the site. Meta may link this to your Meta account under its own policies.

Whop may also set its own cookies at checkout and in the community.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, use a tracker blocker, or opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s browser add-on. You can manage ad preferences in your Facebook or Instagram settings. The site will still work.

§0818+ only

18+ only

The Real One is for adults. You must be 18 or over to join the email list, buy or join the community, and we ask you to confirm it. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we find out we have, we’ll delete it and remove them from the list and the community. If you think someone under 18 has signed up, please email us.

§09Keeping it safe

Keeping it safe

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access. That includes using reputable providers, keeping account access to a small number of people, using strong passwords and two-factor sign-in where we can, and not keeping copies we don’t need.

We keep your information only as long as we need it. Order records are kept for at least five years because tax law requires it. Email list details are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, after which we keep only what we need to make sure we don’t email you again.

No system is perfectly secure. If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we’ll tell you and, where required, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, and explain what we’re doing about it.

§10Seeing, fixing or deleting it

Seeing, fixing or deleting it

You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email team@therealone.com.au. It’s free.

We may need to check it’s really you before we act. We’ll respond within 30 days. If there’s something we can’t do, such as deleting order records we must keep for tax, we’ll tell you why in writing.

§11Complaints

Complaints

If you think we’ve mishandled your information, tell us at team@therealone.com.au. We’ll look into it and reply in writing within 30 days.

If you’re not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.

§12Changes to this policy

Changes to this policy

We’ll update this policy when the way we handle information changes, for example if we switch on a new analytics tool. The date at the top will show when it last changed. If a change is significant, we’ll tell people on our email list.
